sword fighting -
for fifteen minutes
but
i played hard
(made it to
level four!)
now,
my upper body is
only accustomed
to things like
stirring
typing
gesturing
so today?
i feel as sore as
i did after the
head-on collision of 2008.
paul talks about
sword fighting
in ephesians 6 -
...put on the full armor of God,
so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to
stand your ground,
and after you have done
everything,
to
stand.
...take the helmet of salvation
and the
sword of the Spirit,
which is the
word
of
God.
i think i'm going to
take up
sword fighting
even if it
does
make me sore

ReplyDeletePretty sore from a day of shoveling today (and I know the soreness of a car accident all too well). And yes, picking up that sword and doing battle with someone who is bent on destroying us can be painful. I spent a lot of time thinking about this passage last year. I like what you did with it.
ReplyDeleteyou always have to be ready...and you are right the wii can make you sore...smiles.
ReplyDeleteI always love your prose kendal:) makes me think I should regularly use my "sword" so I don't get rusty and sore?:)
ReplyDeletei love this too! and i love how you always bring things to the Word...
ReplyDeleteaside: i played wii since my sisters have it, over Christmas, there is a sword dueling one that looks different and you get sent off the edge by the other person. I stank at it and my twin kept sending me over the edge, but i was still sore...go figure!!
a great feeling to be ready to wear the armor..
ReplyDeletewho knew sword fighting could be such a workout (inside and out)? good on ya, mate. on a similar vein, my boys are crazy about star wars wii games; perhaps i ought to take them up on a duel sometime. (and surely there's a verse somewhere about light sabers...)
ReplyDelete:)
I think I'll take up sword fighting too. :)
ReplyDeleteOh that sword fighting does make us sore doesn't it? But so worth it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your prose, Kendal and how you slip the everyday and faith together in a mixture of words. There is ambiance in this place you create with your heart though words. You are the latte in our jam community Kendal. Love ya'!
ReplyDeleteYou have brought such clear picture of this verse. I have been praying this verse from a while and I'll be standing beside you fighting alongside of you.
ReplyDeleteLove this! If only we'd put as much effort into our spiritual battles as we do with any type of warfare game.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today.
i do love your prose too. one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI love how you can jump from wii to the armor of God!
ReplyDeleteWII makes me sore too! Love the way you linked it all up too!
ReplyDeletehehe - love it! My son is a MASTER at swordplay on Wii. Praying he's as good at spiritual warfare (me too!). Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm a new follower :)

ReplyDeleteLOVED THIS! Love how you take the normal and seek the spiritual. As always, beautiful. You are the only poetry I regularly read!!
ReplyDeletekendal... LOVE the analogy. i hadn't really realized how we are told to stand, after putting on the armor.... calling us to bear the heavy weight of the pieces, to not sit idle... you challenge me girl. thank you.
ReplyDeleteKendall,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up with me.
Spiritual sword fighting occurs so often that I frequently don't notice. I need to be more prepared, knowing the Word of God, so that I can fight as God desires.
Thanks for sharing.
Love the analogy - we are completely into Wii right now at our house and I didn't know they had sword-fighting!!!! Fun!
ReplyDeleteVery cool comparing Wii sword fighting to Ephesians. Every time we play it from now on, your words will ring out.
ReplyDeleteOk, the booked shipped on Wednesday. . .dying to get it!
ReplyDeleteKendal,
ReplyDeleteI so appreciate you appreciating me.
And sometimes I am my own worst enemy.
Here's to being armed and dangerous :-)
