on crumbs and standing

vacuuming this weekend-
crumbs under the table
wood chips on the floor
yard dirt at the door -
i came to the startling realization
that
i hunch over like i'm
106 years old or something
i don't have to
i can stand upright to vacuum-
i tried it.
but am i like this in life?
living in a crouch
turned inward
not looking out?
not searching for the blessings?
ann voskamp writes
about finding joy
through
thankfulness
huh.
think i'll stand up
this hunching over
hurts

and for these i am thankful:

39. crumbs
40. wood chips
41. 1000 gifts - the book
42. community at church
43. a rice bag to heat and lay on my feet when i go to bed
44. my girl, the one i mentor and love,
who hand-stitched the rice bag <3
45. making people happy with food
46. my husband who said this compliment about the dinner
that dog will hunt, right there
this is a high, very high form of praise.
47. fires, real, crackling ones, in the fire place
48. homemade chewy molasses ginger snaps

linking up with ann voskamp for 1000 gifts.

and with jen at finding heaven

  2. I commented this morning and then it got lost...

You answered in your comment to me...did you actually divide to get 73%? Are you math-y like me? Well, if this is the case, then I am precisely 63% counting through the afterword. Though I have my mark in the notes, b/c I want to know all she quotes if I don't and want to read all of these...

I loved this with the posture and I do it too and really, what does it say? how much else is done, hunched?

So great with your mentee and the 5 a day...I am wanting to challenge the ministry team I'm leaving, but, oh, it's hard, yet, i know it's right. You'll have to let me know how it goes for you:)

  4. What a great list! I love to sleep with a heating bag... my mom makes us them with corn inside. I have always wanted a fireplace. I can imagine how wonderful it is to sit beside the fire... especially when it is this cold! :)

  5. I love when something ordinary takes us outside of ourselves and makes us really think about how we live. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I am a diabetic that suffers from knee and leg pain daily...it is not easy to live with this, but I do look up and thank Our Lord every time my knee bends and I am able to just take a step.

Thank you for focusing on the joys of His blessings...M

  9. Kendal,
Good question. Am I not searching for the blessings? I wonder if I am. I can't wait to start the book!

  10. Standing tall. Isn't that why He came and died for us so that we could stand? Again, Kendal your words are beautiful, thought provoking and inspiring.

  12. I need to get my book! On the other note, I think that you are right - in the mundane, I fail to notice the blessings all the time.

  13. Yes, thankful from the crumbs, the wood chips. Because without them, no epiphany.

My book is on the way. Can't wait to get it!

Are you going to follow along with the online book club?

  16. hi friend,

first off, so sorry i haven't responded to your email. and THANK YOU for emailing. things got a little crazy in my world for a few weeks but now seem to be settling down.

secondly, i once heard a talk about thanksgiving. i don't remember any of the particulars - just that it struck me so intensely i started "walking out thanksgiving". as a discipline. as a choice. my life has never been the same since.

here's to you and your journey!

  21. I wonder if anyone else suddenly corrected their posture while reading this? :)

I love your list. And I love those heat up bags, too. Aren't they great to put in a cold bed on a winter's night?

Hope you are having a great week :)
