my new Bible hero (who has a cool name)

So I found a portion of scripture that's never been there before. Have you ever done that? It was Exodus, for heaven's sake. Practically everyone knows about Moses living as an Egyptian because his mother put him the in the river (in a basket) for the Pharaoh's daughter to find....So, at age forty he kills an Egyptian, flees to Midian and gets married. Forty more years pass and he is called, by God in a burning bush, to go back to Egypt to save the people. "Let my people go," and all that. BUT, did you know that he packed up his wife, Zipporah and son, Gershom, to go with him? And here's the part that I know was not there the last time I read Exodus 4:

24 At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met {Moses}  and was about to kill him. 25 But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched {Moses'} feet with it. [b] "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me," she said. 26 So the LORD let him alone. (At that time she said "bridegroom of blood," referring to circumcision.)

What???? God had just spent a lot of time convincing Moses to go to Egypt on an incredibly important mission and now he's out to kill him? And what did that look like, anyway? Apparently, according to the study notes in my Bible, Moses had not circumcised Gershom. Circumcision represented the covenant between God and Abraham that Israel will be a great nation. I love what Zipporah does here. First, she realizes what is going on - the imminent death and all. Second, she obviously understands why God has met them to kill Moses. Third, she takes action. Flint knife. Blood. On her child. Impressive.

Now, these verses don't explain whether or not God spoke to them or if Zipporah intuited the reason for God's visit. But still. I want to be a woman like her. She recognized God in her presence, she intuited and/or listened for God's purposes, and she acted. Quickly. And let's not forget that she is accompanied her husband on a crazy mission. Oh, I want that knowledge of God. And that courage to act.

Oh, did I mention? I think her name is pretty cool!
