onions and jalapenos
tonight
and
this time?
everyone in the house ended up
coughing
and
sneezing
and
wheezing
for hours,
the body rejecting harm
and
james chapter one came to mind
each one is tempted
when
by his own evil desire
he is dragged away
and
enticed
then, after desire has
conceived,
it gives birth
to sin
and sin
when it is full grown
gives
birth
to
death
wouldn't life be easier
if
our souls could
sneeze?

That made me smile, the image of my soul sneezing. And yeah, I could use a good sneeze in there every now and then.
ReplyDeleteHappy week to you, girl.
Love the idea of sneezing souls!
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile. I'm from NM, and know the the way just the smell of chiles can scratch at the throat!
ReplyDeleteSeeing that I have a bad cold, I could really relate to this today....
ReplyDeleteOh, if only our souls could sneeze. Small town Christmas parades are the best.
ReplyDeleteSweet blessings of friends and family and forgiveness. All good!
ReplyDeleteSoul sneezing. Sometimes I wish I coud, too, and reject the harmful attitudes and desires. I love how you write where I live.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh that you related good healthy (so to speak) vegetables for this analogy. But....cute!
ReplyDeleteSure...you can use any post if it helps kids in any way.
This got a smile from me too, Kendal! Remind me never to stir-fry jalapenos...
ReplyDeleteI love this! Sometimes our souls need to clear out the junk in order to breathe better.
ReplyDeleteAlso I totally understand your plight! My roommates and I once created noxious gas by sauteeing jalepenos and had to leave our house for a while. It might have been the funniest thing that happened that year!
Makes my nose tickle, just to imagine the smell!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you always seem to turn the ordinary of life into poetry, excavating what lies beneath the mundane. This one made me smile!
ReplyDeleteYes... how wonderful if our souls could sneeze! That is so great that your girl joins your family for lunch on Sundays. What a special time! Christmas secrets... yay! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this -- you make me laugh...and then ponder...
ReplyDeleteWe add fried onions to almost everything, but probably not jalapenos. That would probably cause me to sneeze too! Our souls can rest, but I am not sure about sneezing. :-) that is a new thought.
ReplyDeleteYour analogies always make me smile...and then truth hits. It's a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteChristmas secrets are always fun!
I so want my soul to sneeze! How wonderful would that be! Thanks for the picture. I am pretty sure that I will never forget it. =)
ReplyDeleteI never thought of sneezing in this way before, but it makes sense. Great metaphor!
ReplyDelete"if our souls could sneeze." I love that.
ReplyDeleteAs with others commenting, I love the thought of "soul sneezing". The visual makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteLoved these words. Soul Sneeze. Yes!
ReplyDeleteLove the image of the soul sneezing. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSneezing my head off as I'm scrolling through blog postings. Definitely a sign I needed to stop by here today. And #440? You betcha!
ReplyDeleteFirst time to your blog. :) Your post caught my attention because I love when jalapenos are hot enough to make me cough and sneeze. I loved that you made the analogy connection to sneezing the toxins out of our souls. It would be sooo great if it were that easy!
ReplyDeletestopping by from LL's blog...the image of my soul sneezing made me smile...Thank you :-)
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, that would be easier!
ReplyDeleteNo joke, right as I clicked on your linky at chattingatthesky, I sneezed - seriously a split second before I read the title of your post. Weird!
Stir frying onions and jalapenos? Really. First, Nutella, and now this.
