proud and afraid and deeply so

biblical kings
are chronicled in the old testament -
old king out
new king in
his age at coronation
how long he reigned
and....
his mom's name
i'm sure they were so proud,
these king moms,
hanging on every decree
keeping mental lists of accomplishments
but did they worry, too?
that their boys
wouldn't keep up with laundry
might play too much ping pong or music or disc golf
develop scurvy-because-they-won't-eat-fruits-and-vegetables-without-reminders
choose baals over the living god
i'm sending mine
(not to thrones or battle)
but
one to college
one to high school
i'm proud and deeply so
i'm afraid and deeply so
but
there are mercies for these days
and
i'm satisfied and deeply so

how about you? what are your days bringing? in what ways do you take heart?

  2. Dear Kendal
I once read a book of A.W. Tozer where he said that those loved ones we hand over to our Lord Jesus for His safekeeping, is safe for eternity. Not so if we cling onto them as if we could do a better job!
    Much love XX

  3. So true that we must trust God for our loved ones. Believing God's promises for you and your family.

  4. They are so handsome, Kendal. I feel these fears. Too soon they are ready to leave us behind, are they not? Proud and afraid...and entrusting them to His hands.

  5. Sweet and honest thoughts...And I never pondered what the mother's of Israel's kings thought, but they were women and mothers, so I'm sure they thought similar thoughts.

  7. Saw your comment on Lisa-Jo Baker's blog and popped over here to encourage you about the college thing. I sent my firstborn off to a college campus just last year and I think, "Has it been a year and how can he already be a sophomore?" Yes, the time has flown and so has he. It's hard to let them fly out of the nest or float as Lisa-Jo so beautifully put it, but they can and they will . . . if only a mama can let go. It's hard, but it's also right (I wrote all about that here in this post http://teamcason.blogspot.com/2012/08/right-isnt-always-easy.html)and our 1st year college experience in letting him go and letting him fly has been a blessed one. You'll make it and so will he. God's got this. And him. And you. Blessings to you as you begin this new journey into the college years!

  8. Yep, right there with you. My youngest will return to college next week and I'm praying for new mercies every day for her. And for me. And now for you too.
