living room floor bare-of-rug
my mom and dad sharing a tender kiss in an emergency room
the dogs' jaunty shadows on the dusty drive
a ten-foot-from-my-forest holly tree in my home
and
in his gospel mark recorded an image i've never noticed -
a young man,
wearing only his linen garment,
followed jesus during the arrest-night chaos
yeah. his unders.
i read it over and over again,
this image of a young man in a vulnerable state
chasing after
what
really
matters
what are your week's images?

I so love the picture of your tree. I have found that God is bringing a lot of His people back to a simpler Christmas and I love it!! I'm using your tree picture as my background/wallpaper at work today. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCute tree...There are amazing things we pick out in the scriptures that we never notice before. I guess that is why we should read them again and again.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever noticed that either, Kendal - the man in his unders. I really like how you put that: a young man in a vulnerable state chasing after what really matters." I chase after an awful lot, but very little of it really matters.
ReplyDeleteA blessed Christmas to you, friend. xxoo {ps love your tree!}
Beautiful framing of a beautiful truth ... chasing after Jesus, no matter what. Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteKendall,
ReplyDeleteI know this story, but I love the way you expressed it here: "this image of a young man in a vulnerable state
chasing after
what
really
matters."
Ahh, may I let myself be that vulnerable and risky to follow him, who really matters.
Merry Christmas. Hopping over from the IP link up. Nice to meet you.
