a positive list

these are good:
  1. Jack told me that he will make a sculpture in his reading class today (with play dough and straws) of something that represents freedom. When I asked what he plans to create he said, "A cross."
  2. Hank stepped up and joined the youth praise team at our church (the new one). And he played last night. And he sang last night. And he was awesome.
  3. The pastor's wife emailed to let me know that Chris and the rest of the team landed safely in Bangalore, India yesterday. Which was already today for them.
  4. I feel close to comfortable in my new classroom. And with my new curricula. And with my 95(ish) students.
  5. I have the door open to the back porch right now and can hear my crazy, adolescent cats wrestling with a string. They crack me up!

a tuesday in september

chris is packing
(i sent him off a day
early in my last post)
it really is today
bangalore
to work with a
church plant
(i always think
of a greenhouse first)
last night
i was so sad
(for myself)
and therein lies the problem
this is for God
pretty sure he's
not sad
this is for Chris
pretty sure he's
excited
i'm looking out now
away from me
and dry-eyed
i will send him off

hooking up with Emily at Chatting at the Sky today for her Tuesday in September.

new stuff to not like and a good God and a good man

  1. i didn't like my post from earlier. deleted it. a first.
  2. i stripped the bed yesterday but forgot to put clean sheets on.  i was not a fan of that last night at 10:30.
  3. i lost all 2009 tax return data. the forms i mean. nowhere to be found on either computer. and i need it.
  4. chris leaves for india tomorrow. i'm sad already.
  5. my head hurts. this is not a new thing to not like. just saying.
it's a good thing that God is good.
and chris stopped by the road to pick flowers for me.
and he put them in a vase.
and they will stay there until that man gets home from india.

unwrapping the eastern hemisphere

we made sock puppets yesterday.
that's right.
sock puppets.
for chris to take to
india.
you must understand, reader.
we are not crafty.
chris came home with
the socks (embryos?)
and jack cried out
in a voice completely
devoid of confidence
will mom have to sew anything?
we did it.
the sewing
gluing
cutting
tying
until we had these puppets.
i can't imagine
what the
googly eyes
will see.
poverty
hunger
mercy?
overwhelming, really
to think about
the child that will hold
a black sock puppet
with a blue and white
pony tail
i'm praying for her,
the tiny indian girl who
will hold
a black sock puppet
with a blue and white
pony tail
