hand on the refrigerator door,
staring at an old photograph,
a rusty metal clip magnet
holding it still for me
it's a collage
really
of a finley family beach trip
the 2004 one
the cameron and pops still alive one
the before i was ill one
the before dad had a stroke one
and
i wish for that time
can't i just get in it
start from there again?
but
what would i say then
about my calling?
oh, i've been called to a past
the old photos
will stay,
but i will not
Forgetting what is behind andstraining toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the goal
to win the prize for which
God has called me
heavenward in Christ Jesus
-Philippians 3:13b-14

Oh, the longing to go back to that time. I've felt it, too. The time which we now see in hindsight. You're so right. We grow and learn through those experiences and are who we are because of them.
ReplyDeletegraet write...there are times i wish i could go back to as well...and photos do that but i stretch forward...one step at a time
ReplyDeletemoments like these are great to hold to, to keep tucked in for when life is hard. xo
ReplyDeletethis is brilliant. and so true. God has really been trying to get this through to me... and he used you tonight, through your beautiful post. we are healed, and he is going to use us now. and carve out a beautiful future. i do believe, though, that in order to walk into the future, we often have to deal with 'demons' from the past... but ONLY so we can move forward in freedom. walk with me, sister. together we'll step into the light. xo
ReplyDeletei have those moments too where i so desperately wish i could go back and make better choices. but then my husband reminds me of my calling here because of that past. thank you for that beautiful reminder and sharing of both sorrow and calling. blessings to you! :)
ReplyDeleteI sometimes forcefully make myself look forward, otherwise the nostalgic "what-if" whispers grow too loud.
ReplyDeleteyou humble me in your courage. most of us prefer to hide our bad decisions, to run from them,
ReplyDeleteand you choose to serve with them.
