write-in candidate

there's a scripture i love in isaiah.
41:8-13
there was a dark time
years ago
an i-wish-i-could-beat-this time
and
i read the scripture
and
i wrote myself in
i read the scripture
and
wrote ED (eating disorder) in
and
held on to
truth

But you, kendal, my servant,
whom I have chosen,
you my friend,
I took you from the ends of the earth,
from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, ‘You are my servant’;
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
ED who rages against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
he who opposes you
will be as nothing and perish.
Though you search for ED,
you will not find him.
He who wages war against you
will be as nothing at all.
For I am the LORD your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.

what is your battle today?
write yourself in.
hold on to
truth.

  6. My battle today is against myself and the too high expectations I often set. I love how you take scripture and turn it into poetry.

  7. I love it too kendal! this is how we fight this great Enemy...so many lies, since the garden. I battle more than I can name but fear and perfection are two big ones...

  8. My battle today is discouragement...but I know beauty is coming. I love your reflection on this and the idea of putting your name and struggle in the scripture is powerful. You always make me think Kendal and I appreciate it so much!

  9. Kendal, I enjoyed your post. I often plug my name or my struggle into scripture too. It makes it come to life for me. Currently, I struggle with too high of expectations. Love the name of your blog:) Probably one of my favorite phrases in scripture "a spacious place". Whatever our struggle might be today, God is offering a spacious place to plant our feet! Blessings to you :)

  10. Anyone who can give thanks for a drum set in the house is a spiritual giant, in my book! Isaiah has been such an amazing blessing to me this past year, even filled as it is with warnings of judgment, death, and destruction. As I was reading your post, personalized as your truth claim against the weapons of the evil one, I was reminded of another verse from Isaiah (54:17)--No weapon that is forged against you shall succeed. Thanks be to God!

  11. I love that Scripture, thank you for sharing it. I'm going to find that and read it today. That is power packed.

    My battles..I'm not sure, there are a few. But I have to say I'm feeling so much better than I was a month ago. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger and bigger.

    Love your list, too.

    Have a great day!

  14. Sometimes I need to be reminded, to write myself into scripture, so that it becomes something personal to me, which makes sense, as I think the Bible, in a way, is God's love letter to us.

  16. This helps me tremendously--to put my name into scripture. I love to read it out loud. Do you do that too? I am sorry for this struggle. It is a difficult one. Praying peace in this for you.

  17. I really like how you did that -- inserted your name and your battle right into the bible. I have not done that before -- it's simply never occured to me. Thank you for offering me a powerful way to read the Bible today.

  18. So I chose a new verse....and then changed it...and then changed it again...here is mine,

    2 Corinthians 12:9
    And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness " Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

  20. I have never thought of reading this passage as you have done. It's really powerful--and helpful. I never quite know what to do with the "enemies" passages. I don't feel like I have many enemies in my day to day life.
