when the first call came
a scared daddy
whose daughter
was whittled away
and he wondered...
could i talk to her?
and then she was there
on my phoneand i could only say
i understand
i know
and god has been faithful
filling me up
so
i can pour out
filling me up
so
i can pour out
and it's now
and she's away for a while
but she can call me at night
and i will say
i know
i understand
and
i will pray-
god,
fill
her
up

O, Kendal! You beautiful, grace-filled servant of the Most High God! How he must love this young woman (and her daddy) to give you the gift of your presence in her life. Keep answering the phone, keep telling her you understand. God will do His thing through you!
ReplyDeleteWe've only to let Him and He will make miracles through us!
ReplyDeletethis is my favorite of yours...'it's never for nothing'...an ancient Margaret Becker song (sorry Margaret, but it's true) that just blesses me and this is you...never for nothing...filling you up.
ReplyDeletep.s. a little birdie told me that you have a birthday...tomorrow??!! happy birthday and BIG HUGS!!!
Beautiful!
ReplyDeletekendal, you are such a precious vessel of grace. may your supply be ever brimming.
ReplyDeleteooh...is it true that it's your birthday? if so, have a most beautiful day. and if not, have a most beautiful day. :) love to you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gift of friendship you give!
ReplyDelete"i understand" are gift-words to the hurting. how beautiful it is that God turns our areas of pain and brokenness into beauty and ministry.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how God takes our weaknesses and uses them for His glory.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for you kind comments in regards to my daughter too - especially as you are a public school teacher :-) (which I was once too!)
Happy Birthday! x
you make me want to do more , instead of just thinking it.
ReplyDeleteThis is precious. It reminds me of 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Way to live the Good News!
ReplyDeletekendal... sister... may he always fill you so you might pour out. it can be draining. may you find rest in this time of separation, and renewal. this was a beautiful tender post, of sacrifice and redemption. i love how he is using your story. xo
ReplyDeleteTotally smitten with your heart, Kendal.
ReplyDeleteHeading over to Amy's...
Being filled to be poured out. You are being so obedient to His calling. What a blessing to walk alongside those who are suffering and be able to say, "I know. I understand."
ReplyDeleteYou did such an amazing job answering the questions at Amy's yesterday. I love this poem...so real and honest.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out the interview at Amy's blog later, but I want to say how beautiful your words were today. I'm praying not only for you but for all who suffer. Thank you for continually sharing your struggle with us all.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me that we are to "comfort as we are comforted"...Your line "I know, I understand"...is all about God's great grace! WOW...thanks!!
ReplyDeleteAdina, what a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing it, as it touched my heart. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour heart, your words, your story...they're beautiful. May God continue to fill you & may you continue to be obedient to pour out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful ministry God has given you with your words and your help to those who are suffering what you suffered. God does use all things for good if we let Him! So happy that you are so filled up with God and thank you for sharing your journey and helping others.
