american idol

the desire to worship
was set on our hearts
in the beginning.
we all worship something,
but i don't always
choose well....
fun
clothes
education
marriage
children
exercise
thinness
work

john g. paton
said
man must either
know the
true god
or must find an idol
to put in
His place
and

worship the
LORD
with gladness
i'm an american with idols
and i need to
change.

  1. Mmmmm, yes. I have issues, too: clothes, accessories, houses, salaries, book deals, blog stats. I'm making my way through Deuteronomy these days -- so much to learn about idols from the Old Testament.

Love your list, too -- esp. #'s 95 and 97. Praising!

Thanks for linking up with your beautiful words and beautiful face...

  2. How brave & how useful to name your idols - it is only when we recognise them as idols that we actually do something about them.

  3. Me too. The channel needs to be changed. It's funny. I never think of "fun" as an idol, I just think of it as fun, but you are right, it can be.

You should tell us more about 93.

  5. To have you as a mentor...a good thing.
My daughter loves Cadbury eggs. I think of her everytime I see them.

  6. My pastor has said that, if we look at the places in our lives where we find the deepest discontent, that is where we will find our idols. I think he's right.

  17. This is what I just wrote about for Mommy on Fire -- the whole concept of idolatry and all the places it infiltrates my life. I'm with Tiffini -- we have the same favorite lines!

  20. "the desire to worship
    was set on our hearts
in the beginning."...and without Him, where would we go? Sadly, my list could go on ad nauseum...thankfully, The Shepherd never stops caring for His wandering sheep.

  21. This was very honest and I can relate to the list. It is time to get rid of those idols that have crept in and worship the one true God. Thank you!
