i wish i had a scratch and sniff for you

my bible's aroma
is
comfort
discernment
and
living
i flip through the stopping points
1 samuel, there is no one holy like the lord....
isaiah 61, he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted....
psalm 150, let everything that has breath praise the lord....
matthew 20, in which jesus asks, what do you want me to do for you?
romans 12, then you will be able to test and approve what god's will is....
james 4, submit yourselves, therefore, to god....
my bible's aroma
is
power
wisdom
and
love
so why the days
i don't pick it up?

and for these i am thankful:

298. fear that pushes
299. talking on the phone with my sisters
300. worship with my girl, the one i mentor
301. husbands who kill snakes
302. 125 students
303. weekends to recuperate
304. rain
305. smiles
306. high school football games
307. caffeine

  1. I ask myself the same thing all the time. When I get so much from reading, why do I go for stretches without?

    303, 303, 303.

  2. rain.

    oh, how I want rain.

but even more, i can agree with you, the days that i don't pick up my bible are pale in comparison with the days that i do.

  4. 301 -- there's a story there! 307 - yes, thankful for caffeine. Who can face a classroom full of kids without it?

Love your scratch n sniff concept. Good question, too. I mine things from my Bible, then ask, "Why don't I do this more often?"

  5. I love the aroma of old books...yellowed and crackling. Love the aroma of brand new, fresh print pages.

But I hadn't thought of my Bible's aroma, though the words are ancient and the mercies are new every morning...thank you Kendal as I ponder my Bible's aroma.

  6. This is LOVELY! My Bible's aroma, more and more, is of comfort. The kind of comfort that has me on my knees, so grateful.

My poor Bible. It's spent more time in hospital waiting rooms than any book should have to spend. But it sure is a good waiting room companion. :)

Thanks so much for linking to Grace Imparted!

  11. I love the rhythm of this, Kendal. And the truth, oh yes. I, too, feel that empty when I neglect that scent. So now, you've moved me. That's pretty cool, right? To change someone's actions with your words?

  13. And with that aroma He saturates us with His fragrance. If I want to smell good, I have to surround myself with that aroma.

  15. I love that thought: I wish my bible had aroma too. Yet, then maybe we wouldn't read it and reading takes more effort than sniffing!

  16. I have had several new Bibles over the last few years but I always go back to an old one I got long ago.... it's tattered and written all over and well...it's quite sad looking. But it's my favorite because of the feel, the smell, the familiarness of it. It's like an old friend. Thanks for the reminder of how good the Word feels in my hands...my mind...my heart.

  20. I have an old Bible that was passed down to me and when I open it there's always some kind of treasure in it - written on the side or double underlined. There's such comfort in knowing I'm not the first to need from it. (298 -fear that pushes ... it's good and scary) Thanks for this :)

  21. I love how people are talking about the aroma of the divine...to me, that's twofold: the scent of incense & the scent of chrism.

  24. My Bible actually has a scent, as it is new, and I just love that "new" aroma. I loved your thoughts here. And I so wonder why in the world I don't run for it as I would my cup of coffee as I catch the aroma of it in the mornings. I savor that rich scent when I open a bag or can of coffee. I breath long and deep every time. I will not forget this, for sure. Just perfect!!!!

  28. Your post flows with love and blessings.

I like a husband who kills snakes. We live in the desert. Snakes is a great fear.
