what the scale didn't say

i weighed in a few times this summer
not fifty-three times a day
like the me from years past
not everyday
not even once a week
but i did weigh
and
the scale told me that i'm heavier than a year ago
but what the scale,
for so long one of ed's arms,
didn't say was
you are less than for being more than
or maybe he did say it
and
i just wasn't listening

reflecting not only on god rescuing me from ed, but on the everyday gifts as well. counting them to 1000 -

721. emails from my husband
722. experts working with my kids on their music
723. phone calls from my girl, the one i mentor
724. back-to-school shopping
725. a classroom, ready for students
726. a plan book, although blank right now, ready for the new year
727. excellent colleagues
728. a nephew who will be at my school
729. coaches who care

  1. I'm not listening, either. :)

It's been awhile since I've stepped on the scale (thanks to Amy Hunt for encouraging me to let it go). My clothes tell me there is more of me and, for once, that doesn't make me feel less than.

  2. Love your truth here- more of me doesn't make me less than... Wise words. It's been 20 years since i listened to that voice- but I'll never forget the way it made me feel desperate and never enough. This post celebrates such freedom, healing. Hallelujah!

  3. Such freedom in letting go of the scale. So often we let that one measurement become the definition of ourselves when really it is the things that cannot be quantified that matter most. It's hard to break free of that. So thankful you're not listening!

  4. so nice when we get a little further up and can look back on the progress we are making -- nice to know -- when the summit is still in the distance and we know we have a ways to go, we also know we have come a long way. And it gives us courage to keep pressing on.

    thanks for sharing your progress

  8. In some instances, it's good not to listen. Glad you are not in this case!
I mentored a girl for 4 years and it was such a sweet, blessed time. Glad to see some girl is being blessed by having you as her mentor:)
    Blessings~

  9. I'm with you. I won't let the scale dictate my worth. :)

  10. You know that expression, "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"?

We should start a new one - "nothing tastes as sweet as victory over my issues with food". :)

  13. Beauty has a scale all it's own, K. And let me just say--you tip it, dear one. You are so, so lovely...
