boxes on the floor and handel hallelujahs

a wise man has gone missing
a strand of lights has brightened
its last branch
i can't locate the jan brett
christmas treasury
darkness thwarts my attmepts
to gather greenery
and
my living room is a sea of boxes
(ornaments lying in wait)
but
my failure to arrange the thirty-four santas
standing in odd little groups
on an unadorned mantle
doesn't change truth
christ was born!
and he was born
to
plead my case
and
there is nothing left but
singing
handel hallelujahs

how about you? have you been decorated a month? not even started? how important is it to you?

  1. I have most of my decorations up, because I wait all year for Christmas. I so desperately need this story of light overcoming the darkness. We haven't gotten our tree yet, which is unusual for me. No one in the house seems to care about it this year, so my gift to them is not stressing about making them drop everything to go get it. We'll get it, and it will be lovely, and I will enjoy it and prepare for Christmas in my own way.

  2. My house is all decorated and Handel's Messiah is my music of choice all season, all year, long. :)

  3. My house is decorated, but very minimal this year. We didn't put up the big tree, with all the gold decorations, just the Charlie Brown tree with the homemade ornaments. It felt freeing!

  4. i love handel's messiah, and yes, i'm one of those people that couldn't wait to pull out the decorations... but my husband makes me wait until december 1st to get the tree :)

  6. Decorating is doubly special to me...cuz my anniversary is the 21st and a lot of the Christmas decor is our wedding decor! Handel's Messiah is pretty powerful stuff...especially when you note how much is Straight Scripture!

  7. We haven't started decorating at all but we've never been big on the festivities of Christmas. We quietly celebrate Christ's birth but don't feel the need to have a tree or ornaments.

  8. We have a very small tree that the kids have decorated hideously (I'm serious) and that's it. Our Christmases are quite low key and plain. Hope you find your missing wise man x
