the year of the lord's favor. and a stray horse.

our guest horse, chappy. circa 2009.
our animals peer in the glass door
a stray horse
watching us
and this christmas season
shopping, entertaining, cooking
wondering if people
looking in from out
joy in my living
because this season is about
crowns of beauty and the oil of joy
and i want to be gladness manifest
for the
display of his splendor
for the rest of advent
isaiah 61 will ride in my pocket
a reminder of

what do you do to keep joy evident?

  1. This warms my heart. Isaiah 61 has special meaning for me, and our outdoor cats are always surprising me, their faces appearing at my study window, peering in, looking all around. And I have thought, like you, what if people were watching as they are, would they see God-glorifying things. Wakes me up!

  2. The photo is great and I love how you write these posts. Good thoughts today!

  3. I love to reminisce over Christmas ornaments too. I bought some new ones this year (names of Christ) that I hope will be with me for years to come.

And I love my siblings too. What a blessing to do life together. Thanks for sharing this, Kendal.

  4. For the record, I'm peeking in your windows, and I definitely see the joy! xo

  5. that photo made me smile!

we used to have a horse and he'd stand where he could wait and watch for my husband to stumble down the hall in the morning to start the coffee maker. and then he'd remind us it was time for his breakfast as well!

glad i popped over from ann's today.

  6. Joy in my living...oh how I want that! It's easy to let the busy season zap our joy. I've been trying to spend more time in worship.

I always love your gratitude list.

  7. Love Isaiah 61. It is actually the foundational verses for my workplace - the very reasons and motivation for doing what we do. :)

  8. Kendall, I so love this. I love your art, your poetry, your voice. Always. There is something here extra-ordinary. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Ha! Love the meatloaf comment-gift#850 ......too funny! Glad to catch up with you here. I've been missing you - always glad I come by when I do.

  10. It's so easy to get worn down this time of year. I am reminded that "the joy of the Lord is my strength!!!" Thanks for sharing. That was a devoted horse you had!! :)

  11. Stray horse? Really? If you feed him, will he hang around? Joy seems to be a fickle friend for me this season. One day I'm caught up in the wonder and the next I'm all stressed out. If I had a seat horse, I might ride away....
