observations on senior living

dad's home between
the a-frame
and
his heavenly
is room 411 at the senior village....
i go to visit
and
pass the beanie-baby-bed
and
the lady wheeling around with dad's cereal box on her lap
and
the persian cat under the common room sofa
we swap stories and news
and
it's here that i've enjoyed my
growing-up-dad
as he reminisces
paper routes
football-at-memorial-park
the great depression
and
bugle calls in the navy
and i know it's not the a-frame
and i know he misses his doggie
and i know mom isn't there
but
part of home is always always
wherever
he
is

  2. I have tears, Kendal. My dad just turned 83, and it's hard to see him somewhere *in-between* here and Heaven. His mind is going. But, he loves reminiscing - and I am grateful for the time I have with him. He is, and always will be, my very special father.

This photo of you two is just too precious...

    GOD BLESS!

  5. Hi Kendall
Yes, your parents will always represent a big part of home in your heart. It is so heartbreaking that many children don't have that privilege. Over via Barbie's.
    Much love

  6. I've been there with my parents and more recently my two uncles (no wives or children). Only one uncle left, and I love to visit the assisted living and talk to all the people. They work jigsaw puzzles, always have one going on the table in the common area. So glad your dad is in a good place and reminiscing about old times, so glad you're close by to visit.

    Hugs ~ Mary
