what to do with mistakes

mistakes are
i don't have any photos of the lemon mistake
as it was a popular hit and people gobbled right up.
so here's a nice reminder of god's promises.
my niece snapped this pic from a parking lot in the spring.
inconvenient
embarrassing
costly
human
but they aren't all irredeemable
i recently ruined a lemon pound cake
it fell
it stuck
so, i made
lemon mistake - pronounced \mis-'tä-k\
(practice that pronunciation,
people, you will use this)
i pulled the cake apart
and
alternated layers of
cake
and
cream cheese icing,
creating the lovely, tasty, six-layer
lemon mistake
i can only redeem some of my mistakes
(i still don't know what to do
with burned popcorn)
but god?
he can redeem anything
and
he
wants
to

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

what about you? any great redemption stories from the kitchen? from life?

  1. Hi Kendall! I am coming over from Hear it on Sunday.

So I am already giggling about your interesting pronunciation of 'mistake' and so proud of you for your new dessert! What a wonderful post for a Monday morning. Who knows what mis-ta-k's I'll make this week?

I have burned brownies before, and just scraped the good stuff out. There's always good stuff with brownies. Oh, and there was the time I opened a an of biscuits, and they exploded onto the ceiling...in front of my grandmother. Yeah, that was one for the ages!

So fun to meet you today!

  3. Oh Kendal
I had my fair share of funny food combinations to try to hide my flops!!! What a joy to know we are redeemed from the law to live in Jesus!

  4. Yes, yes, yes! He is constantly working to make the mess I make into something beautiful. I just wish I didn't give him so much material to work with :)

  5. So funny. I've made a few mistake dishes in my time too. But I didn't have the pronunciation down, and now I do. :-)

  6. Oh my word....that is too funny! I've not made "Lemon Mistake" before but I've made chargrilled (badly burnt) muffins for the first night of Bible Study. Still brought them and put them on someone else's table so as not to claim them myself. Ha! But later talked about how we really have nothing great to bring to the table of our own to begin with but God.....

  7. You are awesome! And I don't know what to do with burned popcorn either. A good reminder that I have limits but He does not. Sharing on Twitter.

  8. Does forgetting to turn the crock pot on ... and not realizing it until the company arrives count?

  9. You are so very creative in your writing. Loved this one. Maybe burnt popcorn should be used a fertilizer. Yes?

    A-to-the-men... Loved this, my friend.

I have so many baking horror stories. This one might be my favorite: http://www.thehighcalling.org/12645/imperfect-fit?page=1&token_url=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.thehighercalling.org%252Frpx%252Fend_point%253Fdestination%253Duser#.UhT-XtKsiSo

    1. OK. That link didn't come through quite right. Anyway. I am a horrible baker. I can make you some brick-hard brownies to prove it! :)
