on psalms, packing and goat vomit

this pile?
i'll pack it neatly
(or i won't be able to go to bed tonight)
and
step out to kathmandu this week
and
this is faith-walking
because
i
am
scared
just a teensy bit
of
leeches
goat vomit
not-enough-coffee
rejection
and
feeling too old
i'm sure the psalm 91ist had loftier worries than
those of this part-time missionary
but
i'm meditating on his words anyway -
whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty
i will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust....

and i'm packing this tonight

what verse do you turn to when you feel afraid?

  1. Kendal....praying for you my friend! When I am afraid I will trust in Him. Such a powerful Truth but so hard to do sometimes. Goat vomit? Really??? Yeah I'd be running to the Psalms too. Love you girl.

  2. Oh, that's a good one to meditate on when feeling small this way. I'm praying for you, Kendal. I think you are so brave.

  3. Ah friend...I am WITH you!! I can encourage you with the TRUTH that He always, always, always meets us as we step out in faith. But the truth is that we have to face, confront, and claim His Word to defeat our fears, worries, doubts AND TO FIND THE STRENGTH TO PACK;) {which I 'should' be doing right now;} I've been meditating/memorizing a 'no fear' set that includes Ps. 34:4-8, Heb. 2:14-15, I John 4:14-18...sending hugs, love, Jesus with you, behind, beside, before, within, always and ever...

  4. I don't know you... but you had me at "goat vomit." :-) Seriously, I actually LOVE goats - but I wouldn't be too wild about their vomit, let's be honest. But really, I love your honest heart here. I can tell you're an adventuring heart. A passionate heart. And Psalm 91 is one of the places I turn when I'm afraid, too. I also love, familiar as it is, Psalm 23. This image of him as Shepherd and all the images within are often a comfort to me on many levels. I pray blessings, courage and protection over you as you travel, as you receive and as you pour out. Visiting from Unforced Rhythms...

  5. Okay, I love that I am behind at reading your posts because now I don't have to wait your entire trip to get an update. It's like no commerical breaks…like Netflix, and now I'm rambling.

You are perfect for this very thing. Love you, bud.
