shopping trip?

short-lived crisis - a pair of pants
did.
not.
fit.
which means i've gained
weight
and this
messed
with
my
head
old ed*
he started feeding
me the familiar lines
eat less
run more
lose
lose
lose
but
holding the secret
and
dropping the weight
has lost its
luster....
and
i decided i would
rather
have mint oreos and new pants
than
a date with
ed

*ed - eating disorder

what speaks to you? tries to draw you back in?

I cheer with you the illusion shattered; healing real.

Oh dear, what speaks to me? Too many things--the perfectionist syndrome...the lies of lazy; spoiled; lowsy wife and mama that call me back to the tread-mill of righting it all and self-doubt...by His grace, victories are more prevalent and the hound is tied up;)

  10. Praise God for mint Oreos and new pants and a heart that hears only the voice of her Good Shepherd! Girl, you've got me believing that He truly does make all things new!

  11. Praises for you, and Him, in encouraging you to turn ed on his head. Mint oreos, any oreos, are just too darn good to give up!

  12. I really love this post...your word arrangement makes me think. Good stuff. I heard a line in a song on the way home that made me think by FM Static:
I stopped lying when i believed myself
    Cause i stopped tryin
If there was no way out
Faith is just the other end of doubt
Your truth is gonna make it alright

    Blessings! RQ

  13. Oh Kendal, I love that you are so sharing about mr. ed. He is a stinky monster isn't he? But you and God have uprooted him, he has no power over you anymore beautiful girl. My thing may not be ed, but I certainly wrestle with thoughts that are not upright. Whatever is true, right, and lovely...think on these...what God is doing through you (as you give ed a swift kick in the booty) is beauty, right, lovely and true at it's best. Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable, here for you girl, anytime.

  15. You heard Him when it was most important...when the speaker of lies was trying to bring you back to captivity with his words. Isn't this attempt at captivity true for us all, just in different ways? Your boldness speaks volumes and brings glory to the One who is worthy.

  16. I'm so glad the oreos won out! What tries to draw me in? Shopping. Definitely. The thought that I "need" something that I absolutely do not.

  18. What's not to love about new pants? So glad you hear ed's lines for the lies they are!

  19. hahhaha. I can SOOO relate to this. I've been thinking about it as I've gotten older. As the ED doesn't have the exact same hold on me. I think it's squeezing me, hard, because it wants me to pay attention, but I keep thinking "I'm better than this. I"m beyond this." Love your entry today. :)

  31. Such a great poem! As a former gymnast, I met 'ed' through many of my friends. He didn't draw me in, but Mr. Insecurity likes to knock at my door at least weekly. I wish he'd go away.

  32. This is beautiful Kendal. Most in the way that you defeated ed. I know each victory must feel just like the first and leave you feeling stronger.

    Enjoy those oreos ;)
