when the cape unravels

sunday was supposed
to look like this:
8:30   leave for church
1:15   return from church
2:30   leave to take jack to soccer
3:30   my running class at church
5:30   return from soccer and running
5:30   leave to take boys back to church
11:00 boys return and go to bed
without having
washed clothes,
completed homework
or cleaned rooms
sigh
on the ride home
from church
i felt my wonder woman cape
beginning to unravel
and i hate that because i
want to be wonder woman
but i realized
that the world would indeed
continue to turn
even if
jack missed a soccer practice
and
i missed a running class
so
we.stayed.home.
and there is super power in that

for these i am thankful

  1. Sometimes home is just the best place to be, isn't it? There is nothing like the scent of pine. Wonderful!

  3. I think this is a favorite kendal. especially the last line...'there is super power in that' b/c yes, sometimes the hardest choice is to rest.stay.home. and I loved your list:)

  4. I especially loved #63 & #68. "Do you want me to pick up something for dinner?" The answer is always yes! :) And hot tea is my favorite way to wind down after the little people are in bed. :)

  5. Found you over at Amy's place, from Jen's email. :)

I just recently started telling my own story of struggling with an eating disorder, after reading Lysa TerKeurst's new book Made to Crave this summer. I wholeheartedly agree, the hardest part was watching my mom read it. And like you, I have never discussed it until I wrote about it.

So nice to meet you and I love your place!

  6. yes, and yes.

love that passage--i am ever so thankful that He exchanges my ashes for beauty, my despair for a garment of praise.

and it's freeing, isn't it? to know we don't have to be wonder women, when we serve the God who inspires all wonder.

you are such a wise friend. i'm glad to have you, kendal.

  10. So enjoying reading your post each week through the link with Jen. It is funny, I linked my own version of when I can't keep the cape on. But we have a great big God who loves us just the way He made us. So glad for that. I really enjoy your writing style.

    Fondly,
    Glenda

  12. My mom has chosen home first sometimes too, b/c sometimes its just where you need to be. Let the cape unravel a bit, it happens to all of us.

  13. Fresh baked brownies...always something to be thankful for ;)

I love that there is power in not doing what you are suppose to do sometimes and just slowing down.

  14. I think it is when we let our own capes unravel that we find the strength (or perhaps it is in our weakness) to touch the cloak of the One who gives all power in Him.

  17. Sometimes you have to get off the treadmill and breathe. I so remember those years of ferrying kids to training sessions - then they both got licenses and now take themselves.

    Kind of bittersweet.

  18. I had a very, very NON Super Woman day yesterday. Jen and I were laughing out loud about it on the phone. Let me put it this way: it involved my three-year-old having a tee-tee accident in the checkout line at Barnes & Noble. In the end, I just had to laugh at myself. Thanks for the post! Love reading you as always!!!

  23. We had a snow day at church on Sunday. And I, too, am thankful for staying home, not because we missed church but because the whole plan unraveled and we reveled in the found time. Good for you for making your own found time!
