happy new year!

school starts for me on tuesday
i'm a little excited
this is my true new year
in which i set goals -
learn names the first week
(i should have 120 students this year....)
grade papers in a timely manner
have students state learning targets daily
run twice a week
get up at 5:00 everyday
practice memory verses daily
this is my true new year
but i'm having some ouchies
too
i sometimes get homesick at school
i sometimes get beachsick at school
i sometimes get chrissick at school
i sometimes get kidsick at school
i sometimes get sistersick at school
i sometimes get cornerofmycouchreadingsick at school
but
there is this god call
to love, inspire, lead, preteens
there is this god call
so i go
and
in him all things hold together
and
it is who i am

  2. Teachers are so important to kids and truly make a difference. So thankful that 120 students will get a great teacher, one who seems to love them. Can't wait to hear more about your year as it gets started. So enjoy reading your poetry.

  6. Those of us who work in schools always run on a slightly different calendar than everyone else! Here's to the beginning of the year, and to new beginnings.

  8. I have my teaching certificate in Chemistry, but I am waiting until the kids are in school themselves. I did long-term sub for 9 months when my oldest daughter was a baby and my son was 4. That was the hardest part- being away from the kids. :( I got kidsick, too. I love working with the high schoolers, though, and I do really miss teaching! Have a great school year!!!

  12. Oh, Kendal -- so nicely put. I get the same kind of sickness and feel the same call. Mine are high schoolers.

I know I'll miss a lot I've loved this summer...but I know He has a place and a purpose for me there. (For me, next week is "Teacher Week," then the kids come.) Happy School Year to you, Kendal!
