in which i see home in the daylight

home before dark
and
sitting outside
and
all i hear is
crickets, summer's last few
and
that's all
that's all i hear
i want to hold it forever
this antithesis of a middle school teacher's day
i want to hold it forever
this forest home where god
is in the
dogwood berries
and
leaves turning red
and
spider webs crafted across doorway
and now the
squirrels and birds chatter,
joining the crickets
the last vestiges of summer and day
combining to peace-fill my night
and ready me for tomorrow
