on seeing like grammy

writing for five minutes on see

a splatter of tropical punch kool-aid
greeted me this morning
it's on the floor
between the kitchen and living room
but
a slight smile,
not irritation,
accompanied the sight
it reminded me of that
grammy* feeling
i've had since my brother-in-law's
family moved close
and i find myself
buying coloring books in target
whipping up double batches of chocolate chip cookies
gushing into the phone yes come on over
when a five-year-old voice
asks to come visit the new kitty
i love this,
seeing like grammy

*grammy is my mom, the nicest person on the face of the earth

  2. If only we could all see the "messes" in life through that lens!

    Great inspiration!

  3. Awww I love it. I am trying so hard lately to see things through a different lens. A "grammy" lens. :)

  4. love thqt you took a picture of that koolaid splat. Don't know why I've never stopped to capture the 1000s of spills on my floor. I'm guessing I may miss them some day- or at least the little hands that spilled those sticky drops. How fun to have your brother-in-law's family close by. Your grammy lens makes me smile!

  5. Kendal this is a great reminder of what I need to focus on. The positive not the negative. Spilt koolaid can be cleaned up, little kids wanting to spend time with me way more important.

  6. I agree with what Michelle wrote above, it is a great reminder on what to focus on. I struggled with infertility for years and welcomed little imperfections like spilled Kool-Aid from my nieces. Now that I have a my own little one with me all the time, I have to remind myself sometimes that I am blessed now because I once didn't have all the messes, toys, and boogers.
