if i could do it again

i wish i had more minutes like this
(with the nieces & nephews)
with my own kids....
junior high...
i would say no more often
my sons' toddler years...
i would say yes more often
my first years teaching...
i wouldn't yell so much
2005...
i wouldn't stop eating
but
here i go
wallowing in regret
as i think about again
when this i believe...
god intends (the harmful things) for good
to accomplish what is
now
being
done

how about you? what would you change if you had the chance?

  1. What a thought provoking post! Maybe I'd change much - but then again maybe I'd change nothing. You're so right to say that God allows the pain for good - though I definitely know sometimes it's hard for us to see that good! I get caught up in "wishful" and wistful thinking about regrets too. I guess you're right and the only way to move beyond is to go forward saying yes more often and yelling less ;-)
    Lovely post! Thanks for sharing

  2. nothing and everything.
He makes beautiful things out of our messes, doesn't He?
I mean, just look at our friendship :)

    I love this post.
    I love you. <3

  3. Kendall, The question you pose digs deeply into my spirituality. Because I am so filled with regrets, I have humbled myself before God repeatedly, and the consequence of my regrets helps me to accept my humanity (the good & the bad) and move forward with, hopefully, God's approval. Regrets do sting, however. Maybe the sting is medicinal. Kendall, I love your authenticity and spirit!

  5. This is a deep question - one to ponder. There are quite a few things that I would change if I could. However, I so agree with you. God redeems those mistakes, and weaves them into the story HE is creating in my life now.

    So, I'm with Paul:

"No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." (Philippians 3:13-14, NLT)

    GOD BLESS!

  7. You know, you really have a gift. Seriously.

You draw me in this whole big idea with just a few words.

Lifetime do overs? Geesh. There are many. I guess realizing some people do not change. Trying to make them who they are not won't work. Period.

  8. "god intends (the harmful things) for good
    to accomplish what is
    now
    being
    done" - Amen!

  9. I sure do enjoy your writing! There are a few, just a few regrets. I try to focus more on what works and what I learned from my failures. Bill and I decided early on in our marriage we didn't want regrets. If something would happen to either of us now we can look back and yes, what a wonderful life!

  10. um, i'd change pretty much everything. which is why it's kind of a relief that i can't, that God--in His mind-blowing mercy and omnipotence--redeems and uses even this. even me.

love you and your beautiful perspective.

  11. You are making me think. I would have said yes to God sooner than I did.
