what to write on your dad's last day

sister called
during my second cup of coffee
i was on the couch
with a book to read
and
plans for the day
sister called
during my second cup of coffee
and
she had
The News That Our Father Passed Away
and
what do i write now?
i haven't the space to write his life of
service
antics
jokes
sermons
smiles
and
love
what do i write now
except
thank you, dad
i'll miss you forever

KR

  1. Condolences to you and your family, Kendal. I'm sure he'll be greatly missed - but his love for you will live on in the words you write. This was a lovely tribute.

    God Bless you all.

  9. Oh Kendal, I hear you. My husband's mom just entered hospice, and it won't be long til she walks through heaven's gates. Praying for you, for yours ...

  10. I'm so sorry, Kendal. "Thank you" is plenty to honor someone so big you lack the words to describe. Love your way, sister.

  12. I'm so sorry, friend. I wish I could swing by your place with a hot casserole and a hug. Your friendship in this place has been such a blessing to me and sometimes the walls of cyberspace are too thick to convey that with the feeling that is felt. So much love to you and your family. So much love.

  13. I don't know if my comment "took" the first time around, friend, but just wanted to echo what Laura Boggess said. I wish I could show up on your doorstep, and wrap my arms around you in a big hug, and pray with you. I'm praying from afar. Much love to you.

  14. Oh, Kendal, my heart breaks for you. I said goodbye to my dad six years ago, so I know how difficult that goodbye can be. I pray that God will wrap his arms of comfort around you and your family during this time and will allow the good memories to sustain you.
