what is your it?

the word
open on my lap
my girl on one side
my man on the other
the word
living and active
open on my lap
reached in to put a
chink in my carefully constructed
reality
the israelites had lost a battle
so, in fear, they said
let us bring the ark of the
LORD’s covenant
from shiloh
so that it
may go with us
and save us
from the
hand of our enemies
they believed it
would save them
and
how many times
have i believed
my it would
save me
comfort me
encourage me
love me?
my it
takes different forms -
pride
money
family
work
thinness
but the israelites?
when they brought it
to battle?
lost....
and now is the time
to lay
it
down

what is your it?

  1. Today my "it" is worry. I need to lay it down more than you know...

  2. What is my "it"? I'm afraid it's more my "they"...many to choose from. This is thought-provoking; thank you.

  3. my it is probably obedience...like if i do everything just right, life will pan out well. but to begin with, i stink at obedience, and furthermore, i'm pretty sure i could obey all the livelong day and never once truly, madly love Him.

(and i hereby grant you 10 billion amazingness points for getting me to self-examine on a monday morning. how'd you just manage that?) :)

  4. Oooh, we each have an "it" don't we...

Mine would probably be "tomorrow" and what I hope is on the horizon (that log home, that debt paid off, that six-pack tummy) the "tomorrow" that holds whatever I think I will make everything right. Everything is already right. I have salvation.

Thank you for the gut check.

  5. Great! My IT has most recently be 'organization'. I feel like things are so cluttered from Pastoring a new church to working a full-time secular job. I've had the mindset that if I organize and de-clutter, that things will get better, but no matter how cluttered or full my schedule seems, it doesn't matter. This is where I am. This is where Jesus wants me.
--But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ~2 Corinthians 12:9

  6. Control. Definitely. Loved the image of your girl sitting beside you, Word of God open.

  7. Works. I think that if I could just do everything right...but then that's the opposite of the greatest story ever told, isn't it?

  9. those idols -- they crop up all the time. My "it" changes, but there is no one like Him.

  10. I probably have lots of its: doing things right, being well-liked, having "good" kids. Lots of them that God reveals and offers grace. Never cooled a cake on a coke bottle. What's the hitch?

  11. I also think I have several its.

  12. I think "it" for me is usually money or power or both. That is how I was raised and I have to work hard to just trust the Lord to go before me.

  13. redemptionsbeauty - i cool the cake on the bottle because the person who makes perfect cakes (my husband's uncle) does! it takes up less space than a rack....

  14. I agree with what some of the others say--my "it" seems to change with the season. Thank you for making me consider it. For reminding me to put it down at His feet.

  15. Anything that we put before God becomes an idol and can destroy our lives -- But I have learned that true peace comes from placing our full trust in Him alone! He is forever faithful!
